Informative and well written

by Tim Mckimmie from Las Cruces, NM on 2007-11-26
I recommend this work highly. I have been researching farmers' markets for several years and ordered this book thinking it would give me some ideas of how Bloomington's market was organized. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the book was much wider in scope. The history of farmers markets around the world was especially interesting and well written. (The author, by the way, is an English professor). Also included are stories of farmers and growers, relationships at farmers markets, trials of growing crops and more. The photographs are excellent and the book is a joy to read. Useful for anyone interested in farmers markets or growing good food.

A romp through the garden

by J. Mease from Bloomington, IN United States on 2007-09-12
By the end of the first chapter, this book had moved me enough to take a break from the reading and write a thankyou note to the authors. Bloomington, IN hosts one of the country's great farmer's markets and the academics turned market vendors who wrote the book weave a wonderful story of not only their experiences, but a well researched history of farm markets in general and the larger vision of local food systems.Highly recommended, a beautifully created and very readable book.

Excellent Canned Pumpkin!

by M. Jewitt from Arizona on 2010-09-04
This is the best canned pumpkin I have found. Anything organic is always tastier. I am very happy with this pumpkin.

This is my second purchase. Better this time. Only one dented can, and less water.

LOVE this stuff!

by Deb from on 2010-09-03
I had been hunting for canned pumpkin for several weeks (with no luck in my local grocery stores) before remembering last year's pumpkin crop disaster, so out of desperation, I turned to the 'Net and ordered a case of the Farmer's Market product.I'm glad I did--this stuff is great! I originally wanted it for holiday pies, but have already used it for pumpkin pancakes and waffles with superb results, and have lots of other recipes still to try (but expect to have equally good results). It's not been watery in the can, and not a single can arrived with a dent, so I think this was an excellent purchase! If I run out, I plan to purchase this product again.

cans too damaged

by Gina Lane from Indiana on 2010-09-03
I have really been scared to use all these cans I bought due to the dented damage to almost all of them.

4 out of 12 cans dented

by Sally from on 2010-09-02
I HAD to have pumpkin for my dogs so I rolled the dice after reading the mixed, but mostly dissatisfied reviews. One third of the cans were very dented. However, none were bulging which is the sign of spoiled food. We are using the dented ones first without issue - on the third of four right now. I must agree that it looks like a manufacturers "error". The dented cans were hidden in the middle of the case, surrounded by good cans. I would bet my last dollar that Farmers Market Foods is using Amazon to dump what they knew wouldn't sell on the supermarket shelves! Lastly, I will purchase this item again, dents or no dents and use it unless it's bulging. But it's unnerving knowing that something sneaky is going on at an organic food manufacturer.

Broccoli Lotion - - - Absolutely wonderful!

by Rhonda K. Gerganess from Dallas, TX on 2008-02-20
Though I ordered the lotion for its natural sun-protective properties for my 9 year old granddaughter and haven't gotten to use it for that purpose yet, I have been very very pleased using it as a facial lotion for me. The winter always dries my face regardless of how much I try to protect it. I was astounded at how much my face reacted positively to the morning/night use of the lotion. Knowing how much broccoli and grape seed work internally, I was excited about using these natural antioxidants externally to fight off the signs of aging.

No Information on Label :(

by my 2 cents from San Clemente, CA United States on 2010-07-29
I'm giving three stars because when I snapped off a piece my rat terrier/chihuahua loved it...but then, she loves everything! My spaniel/chihuahua, well, he ate it but not with any enthusiasm. Kinda played with it a bit. He's a fickle eater with a sensitive stomach. That's why I am here. PLATO DID NOT PROVIDE SERVING SIZE INFORMATION ON THE PACKAGE! Yes, they pat you on the back for taking the time to read their label. But did they read it before printing? Clearly you would give a small dog less than a large dog but how much? I don't know how rich these are and if they'll upset my little ones stomach if I give him a 1/4, 1/2 stick a couple bites? I have no clue! So I attempt to contact the manufacturer (don't even try to do it from their label because it only has a mailing address! ARGH!). This means going online to find them. After finding a phone number and email address I call. Ring...ring...ring..ring...ring...ring...no voicemail..no human! ARGH again! So I resorted to email to ask them what the serving size is. Then receive a return email that it can take up to 3 days for a reply while they make great dog treats. I believe this since they don't answer even their phones! The whole office must be chipping in! Unfortunately, I had no choice but to return them not knowing any info on serving sizes. Thankfully, my pet store will take it back even though it's opened. If you need servings, contact them first. All in all, my one dog gives them 5 stars (she's the one who loves it all!) and the other a mere 2 stars. I give it 0 for not providing the owners the information they need to treat their dog without making them sick :(
