The secret ingredient to make fat Granola
Homemade granola is good, very good. It is much better than store-bought varieties. Fresh from the oven hot, and with your favorite ingredients, has a great snack or breakfast cereals. We love the trail mix well.
But it is difficult to get that are grouped up as it should. Granola must have lumps that are chewy and tasty, and not just a mixture of grain laminates. But most recipes do not work. There is a that secret to making granola added. I'll tell you the secret.
We have a test kitchen in Rigby, Idaho. Our task was to make a crunchy granola with groups thick. Surely, he thought, pick a recipe that calls for honey or syrup and is killed. It does not. At the time of the grain completely dry in the oven, the syrup is no longer sticky and grain laminates crumble. If not completely dry, chewy and crunchy is not. So it must be a secret ingredient.
The secret is the oatmeal. A little oatmeal mixed with the liquid that makes a sticky dough that holds groups together after drying. Functions like the paste of wheat used in the garden infants. And you do not need a lot of oatmeal, a quarter cup for each batch will do. With so little flour, you can not say it's there.
The recipe is easy, not much else to mix the ingredients until coated and bake in the oven until it dries. And you can let your imagination when you make granola. Ingredients basic cereals, oil, and a sweetener. Then add whatever you like to give the character, flavor and nutrition that you want, raisins, cranberries, nuts, or whatever.
What follows is our favorite recipe for homemade granola.
Mix and Match Homemade Granola Recipe
4 cups mixture of rolled grains, oats, wheat or barley
1.2 cup sunflower seeds, sesame seeds or flax seeds
1 / 4 cup oatmeal
1 / 2 cup honey, maple syrup or a thick syrup made with 1 / 2 cup brown sugar and 2-3 tablespoons water
1 / 4 cup canola oil
1 teaspoon vanilla and / or extract other
3 / 4 cup raisins or other dried fruit (optional)
1.2 cup nuts (optional)
1 / 2 teaspoon salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
1. In a large bowl, mix all dry ingredients Except for nuts. Set nuts aside.
2.In another bowl mix the sweetener, oil and extract together.
3.Add the liquid to dry ingredients and mix well. Liquids are absorbed and the granola will become darker and brighter.
4.Spread granola in a shallow baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove baking sheet from oven and stir the granola with a large spatula, so no more brown on the bottom and edges. Add fruit and nuts optional.
5.Return granola to oven and bake for 12 minutes. Remove the granola from the oven and let cool in the cooking sheet.Letting granola cool on the baking sheet will keep the lumps. Once the granola has cooled, scrape into large bowl.
6.Store granola in a sealed container and use within ten days. It can be stored for longer periods in the refrigerator or freezer.
Tips:
1. Granola be crisp and crunchy as it cools.
2. Because the oil, granola, not stay fresh long. Store in an airtight container containers and use within two weeks. Freeze for longer storage.
