My guinea pigs stink!?

My daughter received two piggies this X-Mas grandfather. We love you to death and sweet as can be. I wish I could say the same for no cage. I am now washing almost every day. Cedar chips are bad for the pigs and do not want to put in any danger because of my nose. It's baking soda or cat litter safe? I wash biokleen the cage and then line with the newspaper and then enviormentaly recycled newspaper pulp sure it was ok'ed by the veterinarian. I fear for your health when the cage smells like urine because of the bacteria. Pigs smells good. Give them pellets with dried basil, timothy hay and organic fruits, vegetables and vegetables. They also have a cage in the yard so they can play. In addition, how toilet train? Are they too old for that? Should I get a bigger cage? The one we have is the size of a closet full up.

They appear to be very conscientious about their welfare and clean piggies! My first thought, since you mentioned that are almost all clean-up days and other * * It still smells, is that their cage is too small. One of pigs should have a minimum of 7 square meters and two must be 10 square feet. You can build a cage yourself very cheap with the cubes and Coroplast. Visit www.guineapigcages.com for information and instructions on how to do this. I have this type of cage myself. They are very easy to clean. You can buy bedding in a pet store with the name of Carefresh. It is made of scraps of paper highly absorbent recycling. However, it is very expensive. NO, no matter what they say in the pet store or in this forum, regular place of cedar or pine shavings with his guinea Indian. Your respiratory system can not handle it and make you sick. I'm sure you do not want your beloved piggies sick and suffering from respiratory failure. Do not use sand cats or baking soda. If your piggie eats the cat litter, which could cause a crash. Baking soda, when wet, wet it becomes smooth. I'm not sure would be good for them inhalations. I use a combination of post bed and oven drying granulated pine shavings (pine shavings with oil removed). I can buy two of them in a power supply and is very cheap. I left the position of the beds on the floor of the cage and then covered with a layer of chips. Chips not only absorb waste, but also protect the feet of the piggies. The granules would not be easy to walk or lay on. The combination allows an odor free cage. I can change linen per week and never have an odor problem. I've never had any success in toilet training piggies. They tend to pee and poop wherever they are alone. Some piggies are more demanding than others and just "bathroom" in one area. However, all this depends solely on the personality of the pig. Good luck!

Could use some package labeling

by Toni from Tallahassee FL on 2010-07-23
This was my first try with organic dried apples. I have decided to avoid pesticide ridden fresh and dried apples. When the package arrived I was a little disturbed at the lack of labeling of any kind. They were identified as Bare Fruit Fuji Apples packaged for Amazon, with an address for Bare Fruits. Weight one pound. That was it. No use by date, or any kind of a freshness indicator. No ingredients list, though I assume the ingredients are just apples. But how can I know for sure? They came in a sturdy silver mylar type bag, very well padded for shipping. I haven't come up with a way to reclose the bag for freshness. Even my vacuum sealer system, which works on most mylar bags will not reseal this one. My first try at the chips themselves was a little disappointing. Many of the pieces were almost too small for munching. The taste and texture was foreign to me. But then a little later in the day I was surprised that I wanted more. Maybe taste buds just need a chance to get accustomed to a new thing. Now I love them. The Fuji taste comes through beautifully, They are slightly crunchy without being hard straight from the bag. I have also thrown a handful in in place of other fruit when making oatmeal in the morning. When added in the last minute or so of cooking, they come out plump and flavorful. My husband is taking them instead of potato chips with his lunch and finds them to be a satisfying mid afternoon snack. I am now thinking of other ways to try them, both rehydrated and dry. Maybe in muffins? Rehydrate in maple syrup to use on pancakes? Or could I use them as an alternative to peeling and slicing apples for pie? Two one pound bags is alot of apples, and since I don't know how long they will stay fresh I am ready to explore.

Tasty and CRISP!!

by Belle Gayer from on 2010-06-26
I really liked these apple chips - they taste real, and they stay crisp and fresh.

Excellent Product!

by S. Golden from Saratoga, NY on 2010-05-26
I was a little concerned about buying these in bulk after reading some of the previous reviews. My concerns were unfounded, I was delighted with the product. There was no musty taste in any of my bags, (I bought 4 1# packages). They taste exactly the same as what I buy in the smaller snack packages from the grocery store. This is a great product, sweet and crunchy, and WAY less expensive to purchase this way.

Fantastic healthy treat

by J. Kruger from Columbus GA on 2010-05-22
I am a huge fan of these. They are light, crisp and hit the spot. For 2 lbs of organic apple chips you cant get a better deal. I have these shipped every two months. I take a few in a baggy as a snack or when i make my cream of wheat in the morning i break up a few. They are a healthy alternative to alot of the snacks out there. I would recommend these to anyone.

Delicious healthy snack

by Nicole Machi from Bass Lake, CA on 2010-04-26
I don't like cinnamon and I don't like apples, so I was surprised when a friend offered me Bare Fruit 100% Organic Bake-Dried Cinnamon Apple Chips, 2.6 Ounce Bags (Pack of 12) and I liked it. I figured I'd like it even more without cinnamon so I found these on Amazon and oh my... they are AMAZING!! I have eaten one full pound and have not experienced any bad chips like the one reviewer who said they were musty. My roommate ate the other pound and said one chip was incredibly sour, but all the others were great. The only reason I took off a star is because the packaging did not include nutrition information. It was easy enough to find on livestrong, but I definitely think it should be included. Because the chips are all different sizes they don't give an easy to visualize amount, say 1/4 cup = this many calories.. You really need a foods scale to know how much you're eating but in case its of any use to anyone, 24 grams of chips is 58 calories. 16 g is carbs, and 2 g fiber.I gave some to my dad to try. He grows about 10 different varieties of fruit trees, including apples. He said he's dried apples before and they taste the same as these! He takes care not to use anything non-organic or unhealthy so its good they taste the same! Also for some reason they store better in the shiny bag they ship in. I divided one bag into ziplocs to be able to grab for snacks, and they got sort of soft, whereas the chips kept in the original bag inside a ziplock stayed crispy and fresh.

All natural sweetness - no sugar needed

by J. Couture from TN United States on 2010-08-14
This 2 pack is a nice deal and the product is fresh and delicious. We use the for snaking, chopped up and put on oatmeal, or added to smoothies. They do not need any sugar and are more than sweet enough for our palates. When we run out, I'll be buying more for sure.

Exactly what I wanted.

by Richard Kissoon from Trinidad on 2010-05-04
I bought other organic dried cherries before based on the reviews I saw but was not satisfied so I decided to try these. They were great! Organic, whole, dried and pitted with no added sugar, make these a great snack. The label warns about looking out for the occasional pit but I've yet to find one. However, the cherries are not very soft so it's not hard to get ample warning for any pits that may appear. The twin pack was delivered on time. I would buy these again.

Best ever.

by P. Demars from on 2010-03-07
Much of the dried fruit available for purchase has sugar added. These do not, and yet they are delicious. Although there is mention of pits or partial pits, we have not found any. Thanks to the processor for providing this alternative to the usual dried cherries.

Not for me

by Cathy S from Arizona on 2009-11-11
tried these, broke a tooth on one of the small pits that are in way too many of them, plus they not as tasty as the sour cherries, these are way too sweet!

Cherries were the pits

by Caterina Pryde from Chicago, IL United States on 2009-08-09
I didn't have a problem with the taste, and I appreciate that they had no added sugar, but there were tons of pits. I was disappointed. Also, they don't stay good that long, it's a large bag that isn't re-sealable, and an invitation to bugs. Never finished them.

Mediocre Mango

by Mom of 2 from San Francisco, CA United States on 2010-08-12
I've been looking for dried organic mango that is as delicious as that carried by Whole Foods, which only sporadically carries it in their bulk foods area. This was not the mango I was searching for. It was toooo dry and didn't exactly taste like mango -- it almost tasted more like dried persimmon. It wasn't terrible -- that is, my family ate up the two pounds -- but not with the anticipated level of joy.

my favorite dried fruit (2010)

by bothellbuyer from WA USA on 2010-07-21
Although I've had to do without for a couple months (summer 2010) now while my subscribe-and-save order is held due to unavailability (sigh), I have to say that this is my favorite dried fruit. If I'm not careful, I can eat a pound per week (another sigh). Not TOO sweet, but very flavorful....perfect munchy food (watch your portion control). I've tried the dried pineapple (tasteless), the dried cherries (like bitter raisins), and the dried pears (not as sweet as my own dried pears). I LOVE that there is no added sugar! I can hardly wait for this great snack to be available again and my suggestion is to snip up a couple pieces into your morning oatmeal, cook and sprinkle with ginger, cinnamon and chopped almonds. I stir in organic yogurt or kefir as well. Yummy!August 28, 2010 - Just received order and please note that the pieces are small, mostly square as shown in the photo. I liked them when they were larger slices just as well. First bag tested pieces seem to be softer. Same marvelous mango taste but now it's even harder to stop eating them!

yum

by Sharon R. Maas from dubuque iowa on 2010-06-07
very good and fairly priced --- like trader joes better but there isn't a trader joes where i live so will buy these again :-)

Not bad, for a good price.

by Oldies Lover from PA USA on 2010-04-26
Unfortunately these dried mangos are not as pictured. Instead of the smaller bite-size pieces as pictured, described as soft and light in some reviews, I received the sliced version, which seems to be a little drier and chewier than I expected. Also did not have as much flavor as other brands I have purchased. They're not bad though, and it is an excellent price for the quantity, even better when purchased through Subscribe & Save.

What happened?!

by Verdigris from East Coast on 2010-04-02
Used to love Bare Fruit mango when it was cut into little squares/rectangles and the fruit was chewy, tasty, slightly moist. Now their mango is sold in slices like in the bulk bins at groceries, really dry, and it tastes stale. So disappointed. Bring back the old mango!!!

My Favorite Organic Dried Apple Chip

by rejuvenationmd from La Jolla, CA USA on 2010-06-23
I have tried many dried apple chips including all the varieties carried by Bare Fruit including Bare Fruit 100% Organic Bake-Dried Cinnamon Apple Chips, 2.6 Ounce Bags (Pack of 12) and Bare Fruit 100% Organic Bake-Dried Granny Smith Apple Chips, 2.6-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12), my favorite of these all are the Bare Fruit 100% Organic Bake-Dried Fuji Apple Chips, 2.6 Ounce Bags (Pack of 12). They have a delicious nutritious flavor and satisfy that I wanna-crunchy-chip craving and are great right out of the bag or as an accompaniment to a sandwich or entree or on top of yogurt/ice cream, etc - well i can't think of one thing that these fuji apple chips wouldn't taste great with combo!I ordered mine from Amazon and they arrived with 11 months to expiration - that means we need to eat one bag a little more frequently than once per month - no problem! We signed up for subscribe-n-save as we can eat them faster than that! I can't imagine who wouldn't love these! They are available at my local Jimbo's for $2.59/bag so I appreciate saving money buying them in bulk from Amazon subscribe-n-save!

Fantastic, Healthy Snack

by hrjones from Phoenix, AZ on 2010-06-05
I love these Fuji Apple Chips! They are sweet, crunch and delicious. They have 174 calories per 2.6 oz bag, and are a great alternative to chips or cookies when I want a snack. I enjoy the Cinnamon Apple Chips, too.

fuji apple chips

by John A. Sylvester from BROCKTON, MA, US on 2010-03-28
was expecting fuji apple slice's, that i've had at paneras, in their fuji apple chicken salad. these turned out aalmost as good, great in any kind of salad. adds that crispyness to a salad, much like croutons, only tastier. a thumbs up product.

Delicious!

by R. Johnson from Dallas, TX USA on 2010-03-22
I bought several bags of these at my local health food store for $2.99 each before I thought of mailing some to my grown children and granddaughter. I was delighted to find them at a lower cost with free shipping through Amazon.com...what convenience. My younger son's comment was, "Mom, these are friggin delicious!" They hike, bike and camp. His wife is in medical school, studying long hours. What could be an easier snack? Each bag has the equilivent of 5 organic apples. They're crisp and sweet, with 29 calories per serving. These are a hit with our family. We'll be ordering more.

Low calorie snacks, while good for you.

by Y. Tan from LA, USA on 2010-03-02
They are a good snack to have on hand when you get that sudden craving to eat on finger foods. Like potato chips, but much healthier and low in fat. There are no added sugar, just the dried fuji apples. The apples are sweet, though it does vary with each apple. A little expensive, but I don't mind it. A dozen lasts me for a little while :) Long shelf life. The only complaint I would have is that they only give half a bag of the apples, fill the rest with air. But then again, most chips bags are like that.

I ordered these and they are delicious. These are not banana chips, they are wonderfully chewy and sweet, just like they should be when you bake-dry them. Well done Bare Fruit.

tough to chew

by Barbara J. Sanders from NJ, USA on 2010-01-30
Since this is all natural, there are not any preservatives to keep the fruit soft. It tastes good but very hard to chew.

Rotten and Not Dried

by Gypsy Gies from Austin, TX USA on 2010-01-04
I just received my order of "organic dried Bananas" and they were half rotten when cut and then apparently just thrown in a ziploc and shipped. Not dried - someone must have assumed the "drying" process would just happen naturally in the bag over shipping? They are mushed together in one globby mess in the bag, rotten and have not had a proper drying process. Gross!

too many pits & too sweet

by Cathy S from Arizona on 2010-06-27
I was very unhappy with product as it had too many pits and I acutually chipped a tooth on one. They are also not as good tasting as dried sour cherries as they are too sweet tasting for me. I would not get them again.

YUM!

by H. B. Boortz from Valdosta, GA United States on 2009-09-16
These were a great buy at the time, so I decided to try them. They are great! I never tried them just as an out-of-the bag snack, rather I put them in cookies (oatmeal-dark chocolate chip-cherry were my favorite), in trail mix, and I found a wonderful recipe for Cherry-Zinfandel BBQ sauce in which they were fantastic. They would have gotten 5 stars except for the frequency of pits, which I thought was too high.

Terrible Taste

by D. Russell from Raleigh, NC on 2009-02-24
I will not purchase these again. They tasted like they were old...almost like a bad raisin. I do not suggest buying these bake dried cherries. I could deal with the fact that I didn't like them...because you don't know until you give things a try, but Amazon also had these listed for super saver shipping. When I received the delivery my receipt told me that I had been charged the full shipping amount, and I still haven't had anyone get back with me to refund it. If you decide to try these, just be aware this could happen.(Never had this problem with them before)

Love Bare Fruit

by Wendy Hill from Twin Falls, ID USA on 2009-01-21
The cherries are my least favorite of their products, but my toddler loves them. They Are a fantastic snack for on the go or around the house. I keep a package in the diaper bag for those times when were are gone longer than planned.I love the fact that there is no added sugar, no chemicals used in any point of the development.

not thrilled with taste....or PITS

by bothellbuyer from WA USA on 2008-08-08
I will probably stick with the Bare Fruit dried mangos instead. I'd never tried dried cherries before and the taste is very similar to raisins. There have been at least 1-2 pits per package so far so you have to carefully pick through the bits to avoid a surprise. Worth trying....but not rebuying.

I Love these Apples

by Cynthia Milochik from on 2010-06-28
I first found these at Whole Foods for $2.39 a bag. So I can get these cheaper here. I love products that are real foods. These are ingredients: Apples. I love that there not little tiny pieces. They do taste like Granny Smith Apples. I also love the red ones. If I didn't already have a case of red I would be ordering these on Auto delivery. The entire bag is 174 calories and I have never eaten more than 1/2 bag at a time. Much rather eat these than any other "Chips".

Okay but WAY too pricey on here!

by San Tan from on 2010-02-25
I bought these a few days ago to try out for $5 for (1) 11 oz bag at Costco. They are edible but not great. The slices are too thick IMO making some really hard, I have found ends and many slices with the core still in it. These are pretty bitter as well. I think I would enjoy the red ones a lot more but am not sure if Costco carries those. Still well worth $5 though considering a reg. bag of organic chips aren't much less... the price on here is pretty nuts though! :(

Healthy, tasty, but slightly expensive

by A. Pecorella from on 2009-09-28
I found these in a Whole Foods one day and thought they were fantastic, but they were also quite expensive. Amazon offers them in bulk packages for a bit less which is nice, though they're still on the costly side. The great thing about these is that they are baked, not fried. That means that there is no fat and very few calories, but they are still satisfyingly crunchy, making them a fantastic "got the munchies" snack. These are indeed cut from real apples and every once in a while you'll get a stem or some slices that are just peel, but for the most part the quality is quite good. My wife didn't seem to like them, though I'm not sure why - I think they're yummy. :) I'd certainly recommend them to anyone who can afford a somewhat pricey, but extremely healthy, snack. However I'd also suggest trying to find a small bag to try first at a local grocery (most likely an organic-focused one - I don't think Food Lion carries these) to make sure you like them before buying this much.

Super tasty!

by A. Blanchard from Massachusetts on 2010-05-20
We purchased a pack with all the flavors and my daughter cannot devour them quick enough. She has enjoyed all the flavors, but really seems to enjoy the apple/blueberry the most. She can easily grab the fruit and, even though she doesn't have teeth, it goes down smoothly. I feel better as I am feeding her organic fruit that is safe! It's a win win situation!

Great Snack for Baby.....and Mommy :)

We cannot get enough of Little Duck Organic Snacks. Our little one loves the blueberry. We love the fact that they are totally healthy for baby, and are a fun treat to sneak in a serving of fruit. Not only does baby love them, but mommy sneaks one in every now and again also. Great Product!!

Purchased these for my neice and she loves them four big thumbs and two little ones up and a big ol' smile of approval. These are a great treat for any child (even the picky ones)

Not only are they organic, but they are the perfect snack for little ones! My 17-month old loves these, especially the blueberries which are SOOOOOO good for you---he doesn't like fresh ones, but freeze-dried ones are great!!! We LOVE Little Duck Organics.
