Organic Farming

Organic Farming 101

And natural farming is making genuine roots these days (no pun intended). Dismissed as a trick on the right until recently, these days environmentalists and commercial farmers alike are discovering the importance of going organic, at least when is agriculture. Roughly speaking, agriculture is responsible for massive growth of synthetic chemicals in the ecosystem and the atmosphere we breathe in the environmental footprint left by most of the world agricultural practices seems rather bleak. Not surprisingly, and not too soon, the land has been raised mass and is actually thinking about the side effects of these chemicals in widespread use and the tightening of the reins now.

In short, most world economies have decided to turn towards the use of organic forms of agriculture. Although this is not simply require a complete change blinking full revival on strategies and methodologies, human and mechanical methods used and a huge expenditure, a couple of practices that are put in place. Many countries who have agreed to testify for organic farming seems to incorporate these ideals fresh and carefully removing conventional methods, synthetic loaded agriculture.

So, exactly what organic practices are being used? On the one hand, chemical fertilizers are completely eliminated. Instead of using synthetic products, the fundamental principles of NPK (nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium) ratio remains much more environmentally friendly methods nature, such as crop rotation. plant seeds that are used are completely natural obtained are not treated with any insecticides or fungicides to ensure that are more productive. Nor are treated with hormones or genetically modified to produce "more desirable" types of plants. states of organic farming of plant life must be preserved as close to its pure and simple as possible, without tampering with them in any way.

And Farming believes in protecting natural ecology of the entire field and not just the crop being grown. Instead of using harmful pesticides, pests are diverted from land forms using the human environment and the environment and the use of barriers. A natural balance is maintained between the fauna that promote crop growth and that can generate any obvious damage. The same applies to procedures for weeding. abhors the use of organic chemicals herbicides. physical removal techniques tend to be more animated and cultivation techniques used for unwanted weeds never appear.

One reason in organic farming has flourished practically in many areas around the world today is that conserves land and is a major contributor to the Go Green movement that is all connected world now. Organic farming manages water and soil by not pumping harmful chemicals in them. It deals with the atmosphere as well, since it avoids the use of any substance that can release toxic substances into the atmosphere. Therefore, in many ways, is really great for our planet, not just on the ground.

Given all these reasons, it is difficult to know why organic farming has gained precedence over traditional culture methods today. Although organic crops are more expensive than traditional crops now, people are discovering the huge benefits they bring and do not mind paying more for the way Mother Nature ordered to reside.

What are the disadvantages of using plastics in agriculture, especially organic farming?

Toxic products chemicals that are released, its effect on crops and final consumers?

Most plastics are very stable, and will release some products toxic chemicals. There are exceptions (polycarbonate has been scrutinized recently for the release of bisphenol A), but releases tend to be small. The problem next largest in terms of elimination. plastic sheeting should be replaced every year / crop, and the plastic does not decompose in landfills ...

Description

"This book is the story of the two love affairs that interrupted the trajectory of my life: one with farming—that dirty, concupiscent art—and the other with a complicated and exasperating farmer."Single, thirtysomething, working as a writer in New York City, Kristin Kimball was living life as an adventure. But she was beginning to feel a sense of longing for a family and for home. When she interviewed a dynamic young farmer, her world changed. Kristin knew nothing about growing vegetables, let alone raising pigs and cattle and driving horses. But on an impulse, smitten, if not yet in love, she shed her city self and moved to five hundred acres near Lake Champlain to start a new farm with him. The Dirty Life is the captivating chronicle of their first year on Essex Farm, from the cold North Country winter through the following harvest season—complete with their wedding in the loft of the barn. Kimball and her husband had a plan: to grow everything needed to feed a community. It was an ambitious idea, a bit romantic, and it worked. Every Friday evening, all year round, a hundred people travel to Essex Farm to pick up their weekly share of the "whole diet"—beef, pork, chicken, milk, eggs, maple syrup, grains, flours, dried beans, herbs, fruits, and forty different vegetables—produced by the farm. The work is done by draft horses instead of tractors, and the fertility comes from compost. Kimball’s vivid descriptions of landscape, food, cooking—and marriage—are irresistible. "As much as you transform the land by farming," she writes, "farming transforms you." In her old life, Kimball would stay out until four a.m., wear heels, and carry a handbag. Now she wakes up at four, wears Carhartts, and carries a pocket knife. At Essex Farm, she discovers the wrenching pleasures of physical work, learns that good food is at the center of a good life, falls deeply in love, and finally finds the engagement and commitment she craved in the form of a man, a small town, and a beautiful piece of land

Description

Rodale was founded on the belief that organic gardening is the key to better health both for us and for the planet, and never has this message been more urgent. Now Maria Rodale, chairman of Rodale, sheds new light on the state of 21st century farming. She examines the unholy alliances that have formed between the chemical companies that produce fertilizer and genetically altered seeds, the agricultural educational system that is virtually subsidized by those same companies, and the government agencies in thrall to powerful lobbyists, all of which perpetuate dangerous farming practices and deliberate misconceptions about organic farming and foods. Interviews with government officials, doctors, scientists, and farmers from coast to coast bolster her position that chemical-free farming may be the single most effective tool we have to protect our environment and, even more important, our health.

Description

By the year 2050, Earth's population will double. If we continue with current farming practices, vast amounts of wilderness will be lost, millions of birds and billions of insects will die, and the public will lose billions of dollars as a consequence of environmental degradation. Clearly, there must be a better way to meet the need for increased food production. Written as part memoir, part instruction, and part contemplation, Tomorrow's Table argues that a judicious blend of two important strands of agriculture--genetic engineering and organic farming--is key to helping feed the world's growing population in an ecologically balanced manner. Pamela Ronald, a geneticist, and her husband, Raoul Adamchak, an organic farmer, take the reader inside their lives for roughly a year, allowing us to look over their shoulders so that we can see what geneticists and organic farmers actually do. The reader sees the problems that farmers face, trying to provide larger yields without resorting to expensive or environmentally hazardous chemicals, a problem that will loom larger and larger as the century progresses. They learn how organic farmers and geneticists address these problems. This book is for consumers, farmers, and policy decision makers who want to make food choices and policy that will support ecologically responsible farming practices. It is also for anyone who wants accurate information about organic farming, genetic engineering, and their potential impacts on human health and the environment.

Description

The various chemicals used in beekeeping have, for the past decades, held Varroa Destructor, a mite, and other major pests at bay, but chemical-resistance is building and evolution threatens to overtake the best that laboratory chemists have to offer. In fact, there is evidence that chemical treatments are making the problem worse. Natural Beekeeping flips the script on traditional approaches by proposing a program of selective breeding and natural hive management.Conrad brings together the best organic and natural approaches to keeping honeybees healthy and productive here in one book. Readers will learn about nontoxic methods of controlling mites, eliminating American foulbrood disease (without the use of antibiotics), breeding strategies, and many other tips and techniques for maintaining healthy hives. Conrad's reservoir of knowledge comes from years of experience and a far-flung community of fellow beekeepers who are all interested in ecologically sustainable apiculture. Specific concepts and detailed management techniques are covered in a matter-of-fact, easy to implement way.Natural Beekeeping describes opportunities for the seasoned professional to modify existing operations to improve the quality of hive products, increase profits, and eliminate the use of chemical treatments. Beginners will need no other book to guide them.
