The causes of dry skin:

1. The cold and dry winter weather takes its toll own skin. Cold weather and dry winter skin dryness causes so it is flaky. The lack of sufficient moisture at the door also leads to dry skin. Heating cover remove additional traces of moisture and aggravates dryness of the skin. Thus, in winter the skin becomes extremely dry.

6. Few underlying diseases such as hypothyroidism, diabetes, eczema, psoriasis or seborrhea may also lead to dry skin.

7. Dry skin can occur as an effect of medications such as diuretics, antihistamines and anti spasmodics.

What ayurveda says about dry skin?

According to the texts of ayurveda dry skin is caused by vata dosha. When vata dosha increases in the body reduces kapha and makes the skin dry and wrinkled. (Kapha keeps skin soft and smooth where as vata qualities makes the skin dry and rough. Dosha Vata qualities are opposite to those kaphadosha).

Causes that increase vata dosha in the body

1.Exposure cold and dry climate
2.Controlling natural urges like urination, defecation, hunger, thirst, etc.
3.Staying awake at odd hours (night).
4.Irregular eating habits.
5.Excess physical and mental effort.
6.Consumption of spicy food dry and bitter.

Here are tips for natural dry skin care

1.Do not use hot water to clean dry skin.
2.Use a soft cotton cloth and pat dry your skin. Do not rub the skin with towels hard, rough texture.
3.Instead washing with clean water using a sprayer to moisten your skin. Use mineral water instead of tap water to the spray.
4.Lightly dry skin.
5.Avoid harsh soaps and face washes, because they remove the natural oil that protects skin.
6.Pamper massage your skin with moisturizer. Wetting increases the humidity of the top layer of skin and makes it soft and smooth.
7.Regularly massage your body with oil herbs. Herbal oil soothe and soften dry skin and helps trap moisture from the pores of the skin.
8.Apply a thin layer of coconut oil before the end of bath and dry skin
9.AV alcohol-based cleaning products.
10.Consume a balanced diet that includes foods from all groups of products such as vegetables, fruits, carbohydrates, cereals, milk and dairy products.
11.Include yellow and orange vegetables like carrots with rich antioxidants.
12.Avoid junk food like potato chips, fried foods, etc.

Ayurveda tips for dry skin condition.

1.Keep dry warm in cold weather.
2.Massage entire body with body massage oil is infused with vata balancing herbs.
3.Do not sit near a fireplace.
