Has the land uncultivated and require regular maintenance?
My husband and I are looking to buy some rural acres in California for a second home, and eventual retirement. We are interested in "semi" Homesteading - Ie. who are not farmers, but would like to try to live off the land as much as possible. We get the large property as possible to avoid some residential / Pop commercial development right next to our house and preserve the earth only. Do you have a rural meadow / pasture / field require some type of regular maintenance? We just want to have about 20 acres with our only home, organic vegetable garden, some chickens, maybe a cow, and the rest intact. Is that possible or am I missing something that we will regret? Results.
Our meadow was a great success. It contained many flowers, I could see locally, but not clover and daisies and marigolds and Phacelia (California). Part of it was disappointing because of bad seeds, but the rest of flowers most of the summer and we do not cut until late September.
