Organic Foods vs. Regular

Pros and cons of organic food?

There are few health food stores and health in my city. What are the pros and cons of organic products and what are the comparisons price? Cheaper? More expensive? The same price?

We have been eating organic for a long time now. We have learned inside and out. First professionals place: To be certified organic that there can be no chemicals or additives are not organic. So you're getting whole foods which your body can actually use. It is best to steam vegetables to retain all nutrients. Food tastes better. Not hungry 2 hours after eating because you have Whole Foods eaten and your body is getting what it needs. Is it more expensive, yes, but only marginally. If you find out where to buy what he really is not that bad. Also you eat less than before so it will be buying less. Once you discover how much better the taste of food, how much better you feel and look, you will want to participate making their own food. Jams, jellies, salad dressings, ice cream ... is very rewarding. And you know you're doing something great for your body. Once you start researching "organic" you find there are many resources in your area. Find local farmers' markets, city markets, food cooperatives, certainly the food stores of health. I like to spend my money at the local farmer who is doing his best to bring a great product on the market. We purchased a in an organic dairy herd so that owners get a gallon of raw milk per week. It's great! We arrived outside, chemical-free chicken and eggs. Even with our beef, outdoor, grass / hay fed with no steroids, growth hormones or antibiotics. We pay anywhere from 1.50 to 2.50 per dozen chicken eggs ... runs about 1.50 a pound and beef at any place 3 to $ 4 a pound. We have several other couples who come in and buy 1 / 2 at a cow and it is even cheaper. I think that there is no bad point to eat organically. You just have to educate yourself and ease into it. When running outside of something, replace it with organic. Read the labels, because there are unscrupulous people everywhere. For example, I do not buy anything in a can called "not Professional "... I hope this is too much information. LOL, This is a subject I'm very passionate about how you can tell. I've done the homework and I know how bad that 90% food in this country. For local information of great organic search Weston Price Foundation chapter in your area. It is a great resource, and is free. The Best wishes!

Description

Gardeners tend to assume that any organic product is automatically safe for humans and beneficial to the environment—and in most cases this is true. The problem, as Jeff Gillman points out in this fascinating, well-researched book, is that it is not always true, and the exceptions to the rule can pose a significant threat to human health. To cite just one example, animal manures in compost can be a source of harmful E. coli contamination if imporperly treated. Gillman's contention is that all gardening products and practices—organic and synthetic—need to be examined on a case-by-case basis to determine both whether they are safe and whether they accomplish the task for which they are intended. Ultimately, Gillman concludes, organic methods are preferable in most situations that gardeners are likely to encounter. After reading this eye-opening book, you will understand why, and why knowledge is the gardener's most important tool.

Description

A thought-provoking look at how what we eat profoundly affects all living things--and how we can make more ethical food choices Five Principles for Making Conscientious Food Choices1. Transparency: We have the right to know how our food is produced.2. Fairness: Producing food should not impose costs on others.3. Humanity: Inflicting unnecessary suffering on animals is wrong.4. Social Responsibility: Workers are entitled to decent wages and working conditions.5. Needs: Preserving life and health justifies more than other desires.Peter Singer, the groundbreaking ethicist who "may be the most controversial philosopher alive" (The New Yorker), now sets his critical sights on the food we buy and eat: where it comes from, how it's produced, and whether it was raised humanely. Teaming up once again with attorney Jim Mason, his coauthor on the acclaimed Animal Factories, Singer explores the impact our food choices have on humans, animals, and the environment. In The Way We Eat, Singer and Mason examine the eating habits of three American families with very different diets. They track down the sources of each family's food to probe the ethical issues involved in its production and marketing. What kinds of meat are most humane to eat? Is "organic" always better? Wild fish or farmed? Recognizing that not all of us will become vegetarians, Singer and Mason offer ways to make the best food choices. As they point out: "You can be ethical without being fanatical."

Text discusses two historically contrasting views. The first view comprises the ideas in chemistry and biology that have created the conditions for modern medicine, food production, and the biotechnological revolution. The second is the 'vitalist' position on the rise of modern science and the resulting rejection of modern agriculture by the vitalist movement. DLC: Organic farming.
