Dried Fruits - Healthy Convenient Snacks

Most of us, especially kids, don't want to cut and peel a fruit. It take too much time and effort. With dried fruit snacks, we can just open up a pack and start eating!

We love our dried fruit snacks. From dried mangos to dried bananas, they are a perfect way to substitute for a fresh fruit when we dont have time or feel inconvenienced.

You can make your own by drying your own fruit which is easy but a little bit time consuming. Not many of us have the time to make our own. But if you do, why not make your own.

Here is one simple method of drying your own fruit.

What you will need is:

Fruit of your choice
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup water
Cheesecloth

Preperation:

1. Remove oven racks; preheat oven to 145ºF.
2. Prep fruit: wash thoroughly, and slice into uniform pieces. Remove any seeds, pits, or stems. I cut small fruits like berries or grapes in half, and larger fruits like apples or peaches into quarter-inch rings or slices.
3. Mix lemon and water together. Then dip fruit slices into this mixture. The acid in the lemons helps preserve the natural color of the fruit.
4. Cover the removed oven racks with cheesecloth. Lay fruit in a single layer onto the covered oven racks. Place fruit racks into the oven, and leave the oven door slightly ajar to let steam escape while drying the fruit.
5. Bake fruit anywhere from 4 to 12 hours, and make sure to rotate racks while baking. Fruit will look dry and/or leathery when done. Don't be afraid to do a taste test!
6. Transfer finished fruit in an airtight container or bag, and store in a cool, dry place.

Its quite simple if you have the time. Or you can purchase a wide variety of dried fruit snacks which are just as healthy and great tasting. You may not be able to find the fruit that you wish to dry, so purchasing a variety of fruit snacks is convenient. Not only your kids, but you will love them!
