Nutritional benefits of Figures

Figs are well known for its mild laxative effect, so be careful when consuming the juice of fig. Try a small amount at first, prepared from two or three fresh figs. The laxative prepared from the most concentrated, dried figs alone is so mild that it is appropriate for children, so that the action of the fresh fruit should not cause alarm. However, the term syrup of figs, is often used to describe "compound syrup of figures, this has added strong laxative senna, rhubarb and peel extract to be much stronger.

Fig juice is also recognized for its soothing effect on irritated bronchi: passages. This action is soothing emollient for inflammation of the mucous membranes that produce catarrh during a cold. Fresh figs are a poor source of vitamin C, but are a better source of vitamin B6 than most fruits. Figs contain 110 mg of vitamin B6 per 100g.

The ancient Greeks fed large quantities to their athletes, the Spartans, in the belief that the fruit encouraged power and speed.
