Monsanto, the company who holds the patent for the GM seeds used in most modern agriculture claim that these crops are disease resistant and that they can eradicate hunger.

The fact is that there is a big danger in depending on monoculture crops. One disease, one blight and the entire food supply could be affected because it is all the same type of plant. Think of the Irish potato famine.

Monsanto also claims that their need fewer pesticides and herbicides than conventional plants. The fact is that the modern farmer generally uses more of those chemicals with his GM crops simply because the plants are resistant. The result is more chemical laden food.

Furthermore although Monsanto and our government would have us believe that these crops are perfectly safe for human consumption recent evidence indicates that they are actually toxic to our kidneys and liver. The fact is that these foods are now widely used in America, but there has never been any long term testing done. We are the lab rats in this case.

Choose organic. It's safe, healthy, and proven to be more nutritious, primarily because the soild in which we grow organic foods has not been sanitized with herbicides or pesticides. Buying local organic food also supports small farmers and your local economy.

Organic Food Markets Can Be Consumer Nightmare

One of the disadvantages people have when visiting organic food markets is that it is nearly impossible to tell if the food is really organic by simply looking at it. Unfortunately, there are some growers that take advantage of the new interest in organic foods, take their regular foods to organic food markets, and sell them with the promise that they have produced in a truly organic environment. Without insisting on seeing a certificate on their property, many consumers are not really getting for what they are paying.

Before buying anything at organic food markets, consumers should become educated in what all is involved in producing organic products. The type of natural products that can be used for pesticides as well as the steps needed to produce organic compost for fertilizer. By understanding what it takes to produce organic foods they can ask the right questions of vendors at organic food markets to insure they are getting organic food.

In some instances, sellers at organic food markets do use only natural compost for fertilizers, but if they allow commercial mowing services for example to dump grass clippings into their compost bins, they may inadvertently be adding chemical pesticides into the compost and subsequently into the food they produce. Controlling every aspect of their product is an important part of providing certified organic products.

Taste does Not Always Tell a True Story

In addition to there being little or no difference in the food items at organic food markets than those grown in the traditional environment, the taste is usually the same. While some may claim they can taste the difference, for the most part taste and appearance of organic products will closely resemble those grown with chemical enhancements.

Reputation is all that organic food markets have as far as improving their business and most operators will closely guard that reputation. If a vendor is found to be violating the trust of the organic food markets operators, they will banned from participating and in some cases, their practices will be made public. This is done not only to ruin the offending vendor but to save the integrity of the market place.

The health benefits as well as the help given to the environment is what is driving many people to turn to organic food markets for their food supplies. Sometimes it may be less expensive that commercial organic suppliers, but usually only if the product is considered in season in that area. Similar to traditional farmer's markets, the organic food markets are open for those that want fresh garden products without the chemicals added.

Description

Composting with worms allows you to turn kitchen scraps, paper waste and cardboard into nutrient-rich soil for your plants. The Worm Factory 360 composting system makes the entire process quick and easy. With a thermo siphon air flow design, the Worm Factory 360 increases the composting speed. Now you can produce compost much faster than traditional composting methods. Master Gardeners agree, worm castings are one of the richest forms of fertilizer that you can use. The Worm Factory 360 can be used indoors or outdoors allowing year round production. Now composting is no longer limited to backyards. The Worm Factory 360 is odorless making it great for apartments, kitchens, garages, porches and more. Simply add a handful of worms and your organic waste to the bottom tray. The worms will start processing the food. Once the bottom tray is filled add another tray. The worms migrate upward to the newest food source leaving the bottom tray full of nutrient-rich compost. As waste is broken down, moisture filters through the system, taking nutrient-rich particles with it. This makes it possible to harvest organic liquid fertilizer right from the spigot. 20 year warranty.
