Enemies Food Stores - Oxygen and pests

Oxygen is a highly reactive substance. You want to interact with everything that comes in contact with. That is why it is iron oxide. That's why apples turn biting on the inside brown.

And that is why we must ensure that stored food is safe from him, or spoil food. It is a known problem with canned food, but affects all foods to store.

Oxygen causes rancidity in fats, allowing insects, fungi and aerobic bacteria to damage the food. Therefore, this is a problem for food high-fat powdered milk and eggs - and even high-fat grains, like oatmeal. peas, nuts and brown rice.

If you buy food specifically for long-term storage, companies that specialize in this area, which should arrive properly sealed, or you should demand a replacement or your money back.

However, if you simply buy some foods in bulk at your local health food store, you must do it yourself.

You can buy packages of oxygen absorption underlying the oxygen in the air and combines them into iron oxide (rust). This is not feasible for plastic containers. You need canning jars or Mylar bags.

When it comes to storing food for future use, remember that many of the creatures to eat their food. Rats and insects do not believe in food storage.

Do everything possible so that rodents can not enter the food storage area. Can pass almost no crack, so it should be sealed up good.

The same storage protects the food from oxygen also must be protected from insect infestation.

However, if you're buying food that has not been cleaned and treated, there is a high possibility that some small creatures and their eggs are already there.

If you can freeze the food around zero degrees Fahrenheit for seven to ten days, which will kill insects in food.

You can also Use diatomaceous earth (DE) is safe for human consumption.

It is a white powder of the skeletons of tiny marine animals dead, and has accumulated over thousands of years. When the dust it lightly on food and eating insects with food, spiny skeletons break the insect's digestive tract.

No However, these skeletons are too small to affect people, and has no taste. Sprinkle about half a cup of DE in a five gallon container of any grain or seed and roll until all food covered.

This is safe for people, but can irritate the lungs and eyes, so wear a mask when being sprayed around.

Another way to clean up the oxygen in a container of food is put in dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide) and allowed to evaporate, expelling insects.

Be careful, however, like it's too cold to handle with bare hands. Always wear heavy gloves or tongs.

How to buy in bulk, do not waste food, and still STAY HEALTHY!?

Like most people, with the new year I'm trying to be healthier. Rarely eat at home so my biggest change is only to start cooking. However, I think every time I buy something, like sandwich meat, I have to eat every day until it was or what it goes bad! I'm trying to find a way to shop bulk without losing things and still stay on the healthy side. Any purchase ideas? Moreover, none of the recipes? I'm in my twenties and still the kitchen with late! Any advice would help! Thanks guys!

Freeze! Freeze tons of stuff. I actually do twice the amount we need for dinner and freeze them for when you need them (no longer than usually a month or so). I think the biggest thing to do when buying in bulk is sure that is something that will always use. ie: bread, chicken, vegetables, meat for lunch. All can be frozen successfully. About the recipes, have you seen the girl cookbook hunger. I highly recommend it to anyone. The recipes are simple, good and healthy. The best part is that many of the recipes require a lot of the same things, so a Once you know what you like best, if you get these things on hand to be established.

The Chia Seed is an amazing food. For centuries many have used the seeds for a host of different reasons. Native Americans would take a pouch of seeds and a gourd of water on their trips. The seeds were their food source and taken with the water they would hydrate their bodies for endurance. When you hydrate the seeds in water the seeds shell opens up and absorbs up to nine times its volume in water. This then forms a gel, which is called Chia Seed Gel. The gel helps keep your body hydrated. The gel is also 90% soluble fiber, which is beneficial for your digestive track. People use the seeds when they are involved in sports or physical activities for endurance.
