Waiting longer to have a baby?

Many women today are trapped in the corporate world and wake up one morning to realize who have delayed motherhood. It is not unusual to see women over 40 having children. What are the risks to the mother having a child late in life? What extra step is a mother over 40 needs to take to maintain a healthy pregnancy?

Physical risks to a mother aged
A woman 20 and 30 is usually at the top of your health. Issues of aging, such as vitamin deficiencies, heart disease and high blood pressure are less likely to affect a pregnant woman in this age range. When women begin to reach the 40's the risk factors for these diseases and many others are much higher.

An older pregnant women who decide to have a child is classified as a high risk pregnancy because of the variety of physical ailments that become more prominent in their age group. I clearly remember my doctor warned me about trying to get pregnant after 39 and how the risks were off the charts for me and my baby.

Other issues that may arise during pregnancy to a mother in her 40's include: anemia, varicose veins, cancer, pain muscle, uterine fibroids, diabetes, miscarriages, stillbirth and cesarean delivery.

Having a healthy baby
Mothers pregnant in her late 40s who are pregnant will have an uphill battle with chronic health conditions and maintenance of lifestyle limitations necessary during pregnancy. Most doctors advise women planning a pregnancy late in life to begin adding folic acid and prenatal vitamins to their daily routine, before trying to become pregnant.

Obstetricians treating mothers-to-be over 40 years of age we recommend that you should not drink caffeine or smoking at all. Maintain a diet rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals is also crucial months before conceiving.

Specialty pregnancy tests tracking
Usually much more costly for a mother in her 40's to have a baby that is for younger mothers-to-be. The Ultrasounds are performed frequently to ensure that the baby is healthy and move enough.

A quad marker screen is usually done to identify problems with the baby's brain, nerve tissue, central nervous system and spinal cord. This test also identifies Down syndrome is more common in women over 35.

Amniocentesis involves inserting a thin needle into the amniotic fluid. This test for birth defects as cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, sickle cell disease, and neural tube defects or spina bifida. This test is often performed in pregnant mothers older.

Having a child can be one of the greatest joys of a couple will experience in your life, but it is important for older women to be aware of greater risk to their lives and their children if they decide to become pregnant in life. Often, the risks to the mother are big and other options such as adoption or surrogacy may be a better option to maintain the health of the mother.

The more you know, the better the decisions made in creating a family!

Ruth Yaron cares deeply about what your baby is eating--so much so that her bestselling Super Baby Food is encyclopedic in both scope and size. Ounce for hefty ounce, this manual/cookbook/reference guide is worth its weight in formula, packed as it is with detailed information on homemade baby food, nutritional data, feeding schedules, cooking techniques, recipes, and other invaluable feeding tips. Yaron builds her compelling argument for making baby food at home on the simple premise that food profoundly impacts health, especially when an infant's developing digestive tract is involved. Parents will learn why babies should start out on rice porridge, bananas, avocados, and sweet potatoes before advancing to more difficult-to-digest foods such as wheat cereals and milk products. While Yaron's passionate stance and vegetarian bias may turn off some parents, others will be grateful for her strict attention to potentially harmful additives and chemicals. No matter what their eating philosophy, most parents will appreciate the economy and surprising ease of making baby food at home. This is not gourmet cooking; all you have to do is learn how to boil water and operate a blender. For veggies, simply steam some vegetable chunks and blend. For baby porridge, just grind some whole grains in a blender and boil. It's that simple. And when you're feeding your baby, simple is best. --Sumi Hahn

Description

Following the success of Real Food, Nina Planck’s Real Food for Mother and Baby explains why real food is better for woman and child. Nina Planck, one of the great food activists, changed the way we view old-fashioned foods like butter with her groundbreaking Real Food. T hen she got pregnant. Never one to accept conventional wisdom blindly, Nina found the usual advice about pregnancy and baby food riddled with myths and misunderstandings. In Real Food for Mother and Baby, Nina explains why many modern ideas about pregnancy and infant nutrition are wrongheaded and why traditional foods are best. While Nina can be controversial—her op-ed in the New York Times on vegan diets for infants was one of the paper’s most e-mailed articles— she’s no contrarian. Readers applaud her candor; they also trust her research and welcome her advice. Nina’s basic premise hasn’t changed—whole foods are best—but some of the details are surprising. Pregnant women need meat and salt, not iron supplements. Nursing will be easier if you act like the mammal you are. Delaying the introduction of certain solid foods doesn’t prevent allergies. Cereals are not the best foods for tiny eaters; meat and egg yolks are better. From conception to two years, the body’s overwhelming needs are for quality fat and protein, not for carrots and low-fat dairy. Even as she casts a skeptical eye on the conventional wisdom, Nina is reassuring. She shows you how to keep your baby healthy on good, simple food. Real Food for Mother and Baby will be the new classic on eating for two.

Description

Over the last five years, there has been an explosion of bestselling acid/alkaline based diets. These have ranged from weight loss to diabetes management. While hundreds of thousands of people have gone on this diet that balances the pH level of your body, they have had to put up with the limited food guides contained in each book. Now, health experts Dr. Susan Brown and Larry Trivieri have created a complete resource for people wanting to widen their food choices. The Acid/Alkaline Food Guide offers dieters an easy-to-follow guide to the most common foods that influence your body’s pH levels. The book begins by explaining what the acid/alkaline of your body has to do with the acid/alkaline influence of foods. It then explains how the pH of foods, once eaten, may change in your body—as citric acid fruits, once digested, become alkaline. As complicated as this process is, the authors provide the guidelines for the analysis of the foods covered in the book. This section is then followed by a listing of thousands of foods and their acid/alkaline ranges. Included are insets and groups that can help the reader better direct their food searches. This is the first complete acid/alkaline food guide to include today’s modern diet. It will quickly become the first resource to turn to when preparing meals or ordering food.
